I was having serious second thoughts about the pole convention in Las Vegas when I read several (not naming anyone) blogs about how they were "vertical athletes" and are offended when they get called "strippers". If anything I do is appropriate for a 7 year old to do or see, I must have really messed up. I don't understand how people can try to "take over" something and then judge it for being what it has always been.

While checking out each instructor and deciding on classes, I took a look at their work and I am really excited to take your class. I really appreciate that you went out on a limb to embrace the stripper aspect, sanitizing pole dancing and making it appropriate for children is not an evolution, it's a tragedy.Whirled Piecehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14673547126409072120noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4064027486535175574.post-5151018289219226122014-03-16T18:11:48.879-07:002014-03-16T18:11:48.879-07:00Trusted and standard performed male strippergrams ...Trusted and standard performed male strippergrams are surely dedicate your expecting materials that are priceless and you have there and also your crowds are capture the best moments in their life.Helen Evanshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06732540681774111328noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4064027486535175574.post-78682091327954271382014-02-26T14:01:18.201-08:002014-02-26T14:01:18.201-08:00Tammy that's a good point! I thought I would share an excellent example of why we have to do what we do. We had planned to have our Canadian Nationals at the Scotia Bank Theatre in Niagra Falls this year. We booked it in November but they had not sent the contract yet. One week ago we asked for the contract and they gave us some excuse that someone else had booked and they were very sorry. We asked for any other weekend in November and they told us it was fully booked and confirmed. I had my suspicions so I had someone else call to enquire and guess what.....they have lots of availability in November.....they just don't want our kind there. This is what we deal with every year. Last year, a manager at the Novotel caught wind of what we were doing and tried to pull the plug one week before the competition. So before everyone comes down on competitions, know that the "sterilization" of competitions is what has helped educate people and open minds to pave the way for even the possibility of bringing sexy back. I have been fighting this fight for 10 years now. If competitions had been sexy from the beginning, Pole Dancing would not be anywhere near where it is today, it would still be consider something that should stay in a strip bar. I have been self taught most of my time as a "poler" and I admit, I take my husband to the local strip joint to watch the dancers, (they have good burgers too!) I told my husband, I would make a terrible dancer, because I don't want to shake my booty for a dollar, I would be on the pole the whole night. He understands and I think is very happy about that! Well, I did ONE amateur competition with a local radio station. I saw the other girls I was up against and most of them were really good. (they were not allowed to be real strippers.) Anywho, it was between me and other girl who did do other competitions and knew a lot of holds and moves that I did not. I kept it sexy, wore my thigh high boots (really for better hold) and flung my hair a bit and shook my booty, well I tied her for 2nd place! I couldn't believe it! I'm gonna keep it sexy for sure. I also teach competitive dance for kids (pole has way more rules than dance) and it got to the point where one of my studios completely stopped doing competitions. Sometimes competitions take the fun out of what you are doing. Instead of competitions the kids perform 6-7 per year and they love it! The benefits of pole to me are the friends you make and that feeling of accomplishment when you finally get that trick and your friends are all happy for you! So I'm happy just performing and practicing pole for myself and for exercise. And if I get to perform a couple of times a year I see it as GREAT bonus for my hard work!LoveLiveLearnhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07129152531826960913noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4064027486535175574.post-59649336272012175832013-07-29T17:28:46.368-07:002013-07-29T17:28:46.368-07:00THANK YOU for writing this! I have literally been ...THANK YOU for writing this! I have literally been less and less interested in pole, less motivated to blog about it and generally disenchanted with it in the past yer or two. I never started pole dancing to become a Cirque artist or a gymnast. And I think the sexuality of pole is exactly what makes it so riveting and unique. Like I have been saying since 2010 we have an opportunity as pole dancers to use pole dancing as a vehicle for changing the way a culture views female sexuality and beginning to heal the Madonna-Whore split that is so pervasive in so many cultures today. It saddens me to see this split begin to be repeated in the pole community. It's good - and also bad - to know that Brazil's problem with sexuality, gender and expression are not unique in some way. I would love to have people to talk about these questions, the many sanitarian rules are also applied here. In other hand we also have a competition for the sexy side of pole dancing (miss pole dance glamour).
I tend to think that this dichotomization of styles is a very common social phenomenon that reflects the barrier between dance/sports, art/science and many others. As close as "pole dancing" gets to the mainstream media and institutions, it gets more sanitazed.
I really admire you as a dancer and writer and I love reading your blog (you owned my views when I read your post on being pole dancer and feminist)! :)
anxious for the second part!Biancahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09190927468040873300noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4064027486535175574.post-72519670272913384842013-07-27T11:01:32.600-07:002013-07-27T11:01:32.600-07:00Stay tuned for Part 2 Philip for more on that topi...Stay tuned for Part 2 Philip for more on that topic :-)Shimmy: www.michelleshimmy.comhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02830568746708335760noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4064027486535175574.post-70782424184522920922013-07-27T10:56:23.650-07:002013-07-27T10:56:23.650-07:00I really appreciated it Shimmy... I had to modify a Beauty and the Beast routine for the Canadian Nationals because I wanted to take off a piece of clothing. There have also been times where I would like to use pointe or ballet shoes, but shoes are banned.

Some sexy can be awesome, for example I loved your ballet girl gone bad MPDA routine. Sexy can be creative.

However, I do understand some of the rules. We are still working at making the general population understand that just because we pole does not mean we strip. This takes example-setting (like classy or gymnastic style pole routines and competition), time and alot of patience.
